FAQ: October 15, 2017 and changes to the supported countries list
Wirex prepared a brief FAQ about changes affecting our user outside Europe and what happens on October 15.
Q. Will my Wirex card stop working after Oct 15?
A. Your card will only stop working after October 15 if the following apply:
- Your country of Residence is outside Europe
- Your card number begins with 4665-44** ( virtual or plastic)
Q. Will my Wirex card keep working until Oct 15 outside Europe?
A. Yes, all the current Wirex cards are functional until Oct 15 regardless of regions, including exchanges and payments.
Q. What will happen to my existing funds to my Wirex wallet on Oct 15?
A. Rest assured, your funds will be kept safe. Should your card stop working on from Oct 15, your funds will be automatically transferred to your Wirex BTC wallet.
We will inform you once our new Contactless Cards become available. We are currently taking pre-registrations so we can prepare to send you a new card.
Q. Will my Wirex BTC wallet still work from Oct 15?
A. Your BTC wallet will still work and you can continue to use this feature.
Q. I would like a new Wirex Card. Can I purchase one at this time?
A. We have temporarily paused card orders as we transition to our new contactless cards. We are finalising the details (new design, testing new features & integration) with our new card provider and we will make an announcement soon. Due to this major upgrade, we are unable to issue any new cards (including replacement cards for lost, damaged or stolen).
Q. Am I eligible for a replacement card (new contactless card). Will you send this automatically?
A. All our existing customers will be eligible to upgrade to our new contactless cards. For extra precaution, and to avoid someone else receiving your card linked to your Wirex account - we ask that you pre-register.
Q. What will happen after I pre-register for the new contactless card?
A. We will inform you once the new cards become available. You will receive the description about the card order ahead of others. Please check your emails not to miss it.
Q. Can I cancel the pre-registration?
A. Yes, you can cancel the pre-registration unless you proceed to the card order.
Q. When will the new contactless Wirex card become available? Do you have any other details?
A. We're ironing out the kinks to make sure you get the best experience possible. At the top of our priority is security, integration and ease of use. We are now in the final month of testing with our new card issuer and will be able to make an official announcement soon. Please stay tuned for the full details on release date, price, limits and fees.
Q. I live in Europe, but frequently travel outside Europe. Can I top up my current Wirex cards to use after Oct 15?
A. Yes, rest assured you will continue to be able to use your card. If you have registered your country of residence in Europe, you will not be affected by the change.
For Example, if you live in France (and you have registered as a French resident), you will be able to continue using your card when you travel to Japan before and/or after October 15.
